Rain

Rain was the first horse to arrive at Wild Spirit Mustangs in 2019! She is not a mustang but an appendix quarter horse that needed a soft landing as her owner wasn’t able to care for her any longer and she was at risk of getting shipped to slaughter. Rain has a lot of physical issues and compensation patterns, making her unsuitable for riding. In March 2026, Rain went to Lazy B Equine Horse Rescue in Ogden, UT where a long time foster fell in love with her immediately. She now enjoys the good life as a pasture pet. We’re so happy for her but will miss her as Wild Spirit Mustang’s fearless herd leader.

Blaze

Blaze is a 5 year old Wind River Reservation mustang mare that was rescued from a kill pen in Kansas together with Spencer and Rosie. She was very skinny, sick, and fearful of people when she arrived at Wild Spirit Mustangs in spring of 2023. Jeske worked with her for two years and she came around to being a bit more trusting of people but still was holding on to a lot of trauma and fear. It was clear she needed a lot more time and consistency in her handling and training, more than Jeske could offer due to having too many other mustangs in her care that needed time. Jeske reached out to Mirjam Dunkel with Wildland Horsemanship, located in Colorado, and thankfully she had time to take Blaze in! Jeske drove Blaze down to Mirjam in January and she’s been making incredible progress with her. Sophia, Emibob & Current Miss

Sophia (formerly Krazemibob) is a 6 year old thoroughbred mare that was rescued from a Colorado Kill Pen with her pregnant mother (Emibob) and her mother’s best friend (Current Miss) who also turned out to be pregnant. Both pregnant mares went to a thoroughbred sanctuary on the East Coast and Sophia stayed in Idaho. Sophia’s previous owner “discarded” her due to her having physitis in her hind pastern bones, making her unsuitable for a racing career. As such, she will not be rideable. In January, 2026 she found a wonderful home with Brighton Performance Horses in Idaho Falls to be one of their very well cared for recipient mares fas part of their excellent breeding program. She will have lots of friends and access to a beautiful pasture to raise her babies in. The best part, she is not far away and Jeske can’t wait to visit her when she has a foal by her side this summer!

Spencer

Spencer is a very athletic 4 year old gelding, he is 14.2 hands tall and still growing. He was rescued together with Blaze and Rosie from a Kansas kill pen in spring of 2023, both sadly ended up there with hundreds of other mustangs after a mass round up of mustangs from the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming. Spencer is a little shy when it comes to new people but once he warms up to you is a very in your pocket kind of guy. He is gentle, sensible, smart, willing, and is always game to play with his herd mates, he will make a toy out of just about anything and he loves dogs! He was adopted in December 2025 to be started under saddle and to be a trusted partner for his new owner. He moved to the Pocatello area enjoying a warmer climate, continuing his education. We sure miss his goofiness and fun shenanigans at Wild Spirit Mustangs!

Finya came to Wild Spirit Mustangs for a very brief period before she was adopted by Marianne who owns another very traumatized and introverted mustang mare called Roxanne. Roxanne really needed a confident and sweet friend to help her gain more trust in people. Finya and Roxanne instantly became best friends and they are now happy pasture mates!

River is another rescue from the Colorado kill pen together with Pedro and Dahlia. Through a series of unfortunate events before she arrived at Wild Spirit Mustangs, she fractured her leg (likely from being kicked) and we almost lost her. After months of daily care she beat the odds and her infection and break completely healed! Her story didn’t end here, she landed the most perfect forever home with my friend Hannah and has been exploring the trails in the Tetons, and as of last fall has moved to greener pastures in Kentucky where she has over 40 acres to roam!

Testimonial from her owner Hannah:

About 4 years ago I adopted Miss Riv, from my dear friend Jeske and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. In all the ups and downs with Riv one of the best parts has been seeing her thrive and grow. This last year she’s found her match in my partner Cole. She had her first magical season in the mountains and it was all I ever could have hoped for her! She’s running a herd of 5 horses now on 40 acres and I’ve never seen her happier, stronger both mentally and physically! We love you Miss Riv & thank you Jeske for giving this mare a second chance at life.”

Rosie was saved from a Texas kill pen and came to Wild Spirit Mustangs at the same time as Spencer and Blaze. My good friend Dee helped unload the three when they arrived, and she immediately fell in love with little miss Rosie. In the days and weeks that followed, Dee would come over every day to earn Rosie’s trust. They built an incredible connection and Rosie soon thereafter was halter broke and ready to go home with Dee and her daughter Daisy, where her new herd mates were anxiously awaiting her arrival. Rosie is living her best life, keeping everyone on their toes and showing off her wild spirit while being ponied on the trails (she is known to be a little spitfire!). Dee is planning to bring Rosie along as her small but mighty pack horse this summer and we think that will be the perfect job for her. We are so thankful to Dee for opening up her heart and home to Rosie and for joining Wild Spirit Mustangs’ Board as the Treasurer.

Piper is another save from the same notorious Colorado kill pen (Fabrizius). All the horses that arrived at Wild Spirit Mustangs from the kill pens were very skinny, Piper however, was pretty round and once in my care, kept getting rounder, well….. it turned out she was pregnant! My friend Elaine who had just weaned her young colt from his mother got in touch with me and was looking for a play buddy for her colt and so Piper made the long trek from Idaho to Elaine in Oklahoma! Once Piper’s colt, Zip was born Jeske went to Oklahoma to visit Elaine and meet Piper’s adorable colt. Piper and Zip have found an incredible family with Elaine and her herd of four horses and get to run and play on hundreds of acres. They really hit the jackpot with their forever home!

Tango and Mango came from the Colorado Kill pen and Jeske rescued these two mares together with Ruthie. Since all three mares were said to have been exposed to a stallion, Jeske approached a rescue in Colorado to take in Mango and Tango, as she did not have enough room nor the appropriate facility to handle potentially three foals! Mountain Valley Horse Rescue located in McCoy, CO graciously took the two mares and Tango had a baby filly they named Cora B. Mango found an amazing home shortly thereafter, as well as baby Cora B. Tango is still thriving at the rescue and hopefully she will find her own person soon!

Thanks Mountain Valley Horse Rescue for providing amazing care and finding them homes!

Juneau was saved from the notorious Colorado kill pen (Fabrizius) together with Pedro, River and Dahlia. Jeske reached out to Mountain Shadows Equine Revival based in Laramie, WY to see if they could take in Juneau, as she had a bad bump on her right knee that needed to be seen by a vet asap. The x-rays showed that she would never be sound due to having lost about 80% of range of motion in that joint (right front). Despite this, she is a spunky, happy horse that loves to run and play with other horses. She got very lucky to be adopted by an amazing Wyoming family that were looking for a horse to keep their last senior ranch horse company on their dozens of acres.

Huge thanks to Mountain Shadows Equine Revival for taking her in, providing her with the absolute best care, and finding her the perfect home!
